Title:  Product Line Manager

Base station Antenna Product Line Manager focussing on the Asian OEM market

The role of “ODM and Partnership PLM” is responsible for both the technical and commercial management and direction of CommScope activates related to developing product and supporting business development activities for non-standard product (i.e. product developed to a specific customer specification or internally designed to fit within an overall solution package integrated by a 3rd Party). Such solution will general be delivered via indirect routes to final market (i.e. through OEM or Partnerships). This role requires a high level of technical knowledge covering RF system solutions (antenna and radio,) as well as commercial acumen.  The role will involve significant internal liaison with R&D, Engineering, regional PLM, Sales, Legal and Finance teams as well as the ability to develop external relationships with OEMs and Partners while implementing commercial deal structures. Initial target opportunities will be NEC and Fujitsu so Japanese language skills and cultural understanding are critical

 

This role will be instrumental in preparing the OWN BU for the potential impact of both Open RAN and generally virtualization/centralization on the deployment of future mobile networks.  These industry initiatives may impact current busines models creating both future risks and opportunities.  The impact of this role is global but as major early-stage aspects of Open RAN are likely to evolve in Japan with involvement of key OEM’s NEC and Fujitsu so the individual taking this role will be based in Japan.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

This position includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Understanding the overall market requirements for Antenna and Radio solutions being delivered into the Macro Mobile/Cellular base station market both in the short and medium term
  • Translate market requirements into technical scope and specifications for product development
  • Help communicate longer term market direction and need into technology and product roadmaps for OWN management
  • Support Sales and Regional PLM with end customer communications
  • Support the ongoing implementation of the OWN Open RAN including:
        • Tracking market uptake and implementation of Open RAN
        • Identifying and monitoring activities of potential partners and competitors in the Open RAN space
        • Managing development of partner relationships related to Open RAN (e.g. O-RU vendors, RAN DU/CU software vendors, industry based Open RAN bodies and initiatives Such as ORAN Alliance, TIP, Evenstar)
        • Work with legal and Finance to develop business models and contractual arrangements for execution of the Open RAN partnership strategy
        • Develop marketing communications and education content and ensure the sales and MNE teams understand and can communicate clearly to their customers our overall strategy.
        • Support PLM in responding to any market related RFI/RFQ or other such requests.
        • Support the BU management in tracking the success of the OpenRAN strategy and updating the initiatives as needed
  • Act as a PLM for developing RU initiatives including specification development, and financial modelling for margin analysis e.t.c.
  • Supporting specific OEM PLM tasks as needed

 

 

Minimum Job Specifications

Candidate should hold a minimum of a Bachelors degree in a technically related subject with 5+ years’ experience most likely in both technical and customer facing roles

 

Skills and Key Capabilities required:

Include demonstrated competencies and physical, mental, & interpersonal skills.

 

    • This individual must have a technical background at both a system and subsystem level; likely to have experience as a radio/antenna or RF systems engineer. The candidate should be able to explain the functioning of a mMIMO AAU and put this in the context of a mobile network. The candidate should be comfortable discussing basic radio line-up architecture and key metrics of digital, filter, PA, and Antenna subsystems
    • They need to be able to translate general market requirements into detailed technical specifications and be able to explain and justify these to a development engineering audience. Also, they need to be able to articulate product features and design rationale into form that can be explained to customers and sales staff
    • This person must have good communications and presentation skills and is likely to have served in a customer facing role in the past. The ability to develop professional presentation material and written customer documents as well as presenting direct to internal, customer and supplier audiences is required.
    • This individual must be able to operate in the Japanese home market and be able to build strong personal relationships with management and engineering teams in NEC and Fujitsu
    • Good understanding of our business and ability to identify opportunities for CommScope building strong relationships with partners and suppliers and supporting delivery of customer centric solutions
    • Basic financial modelling skills (e.g. cost and margin analysis and preparation of a business case for development programs is a requirement.
    • While direct people management is not within this role the ability to manage the activities of cross-functional teams and to influence and drive project activity is a requirement. Good time management and prioritization skills will be required in this role. Ability to manage complexity and set meaningful priorities
    • Good project organizational skills, planning and prioritizing work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals
