Summary of the job scope:

  1. Provides pre-sales and post-sales product and technical support; assistance to CommScope’s internal and external customers as a contributing team member. Support Product and Account Management and Sales teams for current, modified and new CommScope applications and configurations.
  2. Provide application engineering support for the introduction of new products, consult with customer to determine and document requirements, develop product specifications, work with product managers on the development of fit for purpose products.
  3. Provide detailed engineering support in person, via telephone and through production of detailed documentation.
  4. Participate in forums, seminars, customer meetings and public events as a subject matter expert.
  5. Position is based in Japan and the engineer shall be fluent in Japanese and English languages.

 

More details on the responsibilities:

Direct Sales Support

Provide technical assistance on assigned products and solutions and be an active member of the sales team by performing the following functions:

Custom Product Configuration

Translate customer system level requirements into new or modified products or configurations of products.  Capture and deliver to our Product Business Units a comprehensive list of product features and functions that are prioritized by the customer.

Consulting

Provide technical support on evolving technologies and applications, providing the customer with details on product and solution design and implementation.

Proposal Support

Give technical input to Requests for Quotation, Information, or Pricing. Answer technical questionnaires, prepare product overview perspectives, Participate in proof-of-concept deployment and advise on bid/no bid decisions.

Source of Product Information

Use the expertise gained on new product development teams to advise customers on product features, functions, interfaces and solution design and deployment.

Post Sale Support

When/where required, assist in all aspects of Post-Sale support, i.e. installation supervision, phone/field troubleshooting/repair and preparing installation documentation. Proficient in field test techniques and field data test analysis.

Product Approval

Work with customers to obtain product approvals. Providing documents to the customer to enable their product approval, including test results, datasheets and installation instructions. Plan and manage all aspects of Field Trials to include capturing customer requirements and parameters for defining a successful trial, layout and design of the product solution, develop test plans, overseeing installations, capturing, analysing and reporting customer feedback to include results of field trial acceptance.

Technical Presentations

Develop and deliver technical presentations on CommScope’s product applications and/or general industry concepts.

Product Support

Be an active member of product development teams.  Bring the customer’s technical and operational perspective into the product development process.

Acknowledged Product Expert

Contribute to product development teams on selected CommScope product families.

Product Champion

Provide innovative ideas, customer perspective, and research into product developments. Stay involved in the process from concept through design through execution.  Actively participate in market introduction and penetration strategies.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Degree or diploma in electrical, optical or telecommunications field
  • 8 to 10+ years’ experience in customer consultation or support
  • Detailed knowledge and practical experience in engineering of CommScope’s products highly preferred

You Will Excite us if You Have:

  • Knowledge of and limited experience with test equipment to include Optical Time Domain Reflectometers, Optical Power Meters and Sources and Multimeters strongly preferred.
  • Previous OSP/ISP engineering and post-sales OSP/ISP experiences with service provider customers
  • Previous experience/knowledge of FTTx network design
  • Understanding transport technology and the transport network including the knowledge required to design equipment into these networks preferred.
  • Some experience with troubleshooting skills of Transport Technologies, including a background understanding of test sets to troubleshoot equipment in a Telecommunication network preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to establish and maintain relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, both Japanese and English.
  • Must be able to work with limited supervision, proactively seek outcomes within guidelines and authority provided by management
  • Uses professional concepts in accordance with company objectives to solve complex problems in creative and effective ways.  Exercises judgement within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
  • Maturity, a strong work ethic and a high degree of integrity in respect of maintaining the confidentiality of the IP of both parties CommScope and Customer
  • Proficient with relevant software tools (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Domestic and international up to 30% of time
