Senior Staff Engineer, Cable Design

Position Overview

We are seeking a talented and driven R&D Engineer to join our Copper Cable Engineering team.  The team is based in Claremont North Carolina, but this position will be based in Suzhou, China. This role will support new product development and sustaining engineering activities for our Suzhou manufacturing facility and contract manufacturers across the APAC region. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in wire and cable design, with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support multiple R&D and sustaining projects focused on cost optimization, product enhancements, and new product introductions (NPIs) across APAC.
  • Apply design-for-manufacturing principles to develop and improve cable products through experimentation, testing, and analysis.
  • Identify and resolve product performance issues through root cause analysis and engineering solutions.
  • Conduct data analysis, document technical findings, and maintain accurate records of design iterations and test results.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with production, quality, process engineering, materials planning, and procurement teams to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Develop and manage project budgets and timelines, ensuring deliverables are met on schedule.
  • Create and execute test plans for both existing and new cable products.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ME) or Electrical Engineering (EE) from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in wire and cable design, development, or manufacturing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to implement practical engineering solutions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook,).
  • Comfortable working in a global team environment, collaborating effectively with colleagues across different time zones, cultures, and functional areas to drive project success and innovation.

 

Preferred Skills & Attributes

  • Material properties experience relevant to wire and cable applications.
  • Demonstrated innovation and creativity in product design and process improvement.
  • Self-motivated with strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and sound decision-making abilities.
  • Comfortable working in both hands-on lab environments and performing data-driven analysis.
  • Experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools such as Creo or SolidWorks.
