Title:  Mechanical Engineer (Optic Fiber)

General Summary

This position is responsible for working with cross functional teams to design and release new products and improve existing products. 

Duties & Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this position will be to support new product development. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

Project Team

•            Participate in multiple product development and cost reduction team efforts.  Meets projects targets and schedules.

•            Create documentation of product requirements based on industry standards.

•            Create innovative designs of new components and assemblies.

•            Create documentation to support the release of new and modified products.  Clearly and concisely documents own work.

•            Support the optical and mechanical testing of fiber optic products.

•            Work with Manufacturing on process development and introductions of new products into Manufacturing.

•            Perform data analysis and evaluation.  Structures and solves diverse range of complex problems with assistance from supervisors.

•            Project Manage activities related to self and others.

•            Perform failure analysis.

•            Write test reports documenting the results of testing.

•            Review and approve product design and engineering change documentation for conformance to company, customer, agency and industry specifications and standards.

•            Understanding of competitive products and IP position.

•            Generate Record of Inventions for innovations and pursue intellectual property protection.

•            Ability to deliver technical improvements to existing products/processes/services where feasible resulting in cost reductions or quality improvement.

•            Actively contributes to codified knowledge base within CommScope.

•            Contributes to multiple project level technology and product decisions.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in related curriculum such as mechanical engineering or physics with 5 years of related experience or Masters in related curriculum such as mechanical engineering or physics with 2 years of related experience
  • Solid communication skills including excellent writing skills.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft suite.
  • Skilled at planning and ability to pay attention to details.
  • Ability to effectively work within a team environment.
  • Understanding of design for manufacturing.
  • Ability to deliver technical improvements to existing products/processes/services.


Strongly Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Experience with design & test of fiber optic connectors, cable assemblies, and closures
  • Familiar with International and Domestic standards (TIA-EIA-568B, GR-326, IEC-61753, etc)
  • Hardened product design experience, exposure to harsh environmental and mechanical stresses
  • SolidWorks experience
  • General knowledge of wireless communication networks
  • SAP experience
  • DFMEA / FMEA experience


Must Have:

1: Mechanical engineering or physic

2: Technical experience in optical fiber connector and cable assembly experience

3: Must be proficient in reading and writing in English, nice to have if candidate is able to converse proficiently in English.

Good to Have:

1: Product/Project management experience

2: Quality assurance experience

3: Able to think and work independently with minimal supervision
