Title:  Mechanical Designer III

How You'll Help Us Connect The World:

As a member of our Cloud Hyperscale Solutions R&D engineering team, this role will be focused on working with multi-functional teams to design and release new products or improve existing products. The primary responsibility of this position will be to support new product development. More specifically, this includes:

Project Team:

  • Build design concepts and solutions that tackle customer problems
  • Model product components as well as assemblies in CAD software following company practice and manage CAD file versions in the CAD database
  • Requests prototypes of new designs using relevant methods and suppliers. Collaborate with the lead Design Engineer to evaluate form, fit, and function of prototypes
  • Document designs in drawings and bills of materials per standards and specifications. May also add detailed dimensions to drawings
  • Collaborate with a Design Engineer to assure materials and designs are meeting relevant specifications. Collaborate with Manufacturing Process Development to assure components and assemblies are manufacturable. Collaborates with Field Application Engineering to assure that products are usable by the customer in an application setting
  • Initiate release of drawings and BOM into the MRP system


  • Develop detailed knowledge of corporate, business unit, and department quality management system documentation as well as relevant industry standards for fiber optic products and applications
  • Develop detailed understanding of CAD software capabilities, design and manufacturing practices for the range of parts and assemblies
  • Participate in process improvement efforts and group training


Required Qualifications for Consideration:

  • Associate degree in related curriculum with 5+ years of design experience.
  • Experience with MCAD software and database management
  • Experience with prototyping and manufacturing methods
  • Experience with Plastic Injection molding
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and Bill of Material structure
  • Familiarity with drawing and tolerance standards
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team-based environment


You Will Excite Us If You Have:

Knowledge of CREO CAD software and SAP. Knowledge of sheet metal and plastics design / manufacturing techniques. Experience with the product development process in a manufacturing environment along with experience in fiber optic products
