Position Title: Supplier Quality Engineer



General Summary:


The Supplier Quality Engineer is a member of a team, the role of which is to implement a unified approach to Quality in CommScope with the intent to deliver high quality products and services in a manner that meets the high standards held by CommScope. 

The person has to be a champion of Quality to both internal and external clients; leads the implementation and maintenance of an effective quality program to improve operating processes and to integrate quality improvements, leads the facilitation, tracking and closure of quality improvement initiatives. Provide work guidance to less experience Suppliers, quality engineers ,technicians, inspectors and provide support to local Supplier quality and Procurement  team.



Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Coordinate with Buyers for supplier selection for CommScope Business
  • Supplier evaluation through Risk & Sustainability Audits & Effective closure of Audit NC points before serial production
  • Review of PRAF with supplier & Engineering to ensure no deviations during FA, by initial manufacturing feasibilities & Drawing corrections before start of Project
  • Ensure Quality Management (QM) set-up for each part to initiate FA process
  • Ensure Project gates are followed as per CommScope standards (CommScope Supplier Selection Process & Project Management).
  • Ensure suppliers are trained & guided the standards of Commscope to meet quality & delivery requirement.
  • Having a capability to assess suppliers Organization requirement, Technical & Manufacturing capabilities.
  • Assess complete capabilities of suppliers (Plant Level).
  • Should be able to ensure consistent performance of suppliers through supplier development activities and programs
  • Coordinate FA reviews with IQC Inspectors and be part of the decision-making process for part approval process and coordinate and lead MRB’s for Incoming rejects
  • On-time completion of PPAP process & FA Approvals in review IQC & Engineering.
  • Conduct periodic Audits as per CommScope Audit plan & Ensure continual improvements at Suppliers
  • Coordinates actions with operations to ensure that the CommScope quality system procedures meet or exceed applicable ISO/TL standards.
  • Review day to day activities with priorities for inspection for regular parts in coordination with Planners/Procurement or with regards to FIFO basis
  • Coordinate & Follow up with suppliers to ensure Z2’s is closed with 8D reports.
  • Coordinate with internal customers to ensure smooth flow of production, to ensure no line stoppages
  • Conducts training sessions on quality control activities which also includes certification like 7QC Tools, 8D, PFMEA, MSA, SPC etc…
  • Have ownership for controlling & ensuring Root Cause analysis & preventive actions are implemented for customer & product notification
  • Proactive approach by creating and presenting appropriate quality measures
  • Process & Product awareness to suppliers
  • Constant improvement or incorporating best practices for new systems and current system enhancements
  • Able to manage suppliers’ representatives in managing dialogues and conversations to ensure that CommScope business is not impacted due to Quality related issues
  • Ensure monthly supplier KPI’s are reviewed & action are initiated for supplier not meeting goal.
  • Should be able to make decision based on CommScope procedures & criteria associated with supplier’s surveys, MRBs, deviation authorization, Quality & Product Standards.
    Qualification & Experience:
    preferably Bachelor’s in related curriculum such as Quality / Mechanical / Electrical or Industrial Engineering with
  • Pferably 12-15 Years of Related Experience in Quality in manufacturing industry
  • preferably Inclusive 5-8 years of experience as Lean Black belt
    Skills Required: 
    Include demonstrated competencies and physical, mental, & interpersonal skills.
  • Work experience of a statistical, engineering and technical background
  • Familiarity with ISO9000/TL9000 Quality Systems with implementation or other applicable professional experience.
  • Working knowledge of basic and advanced Quality tools such as; Six Sigma, SPC, FMEA, Control Plans, Root Cause Analysis, Poke Yoke, Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing etc.
  • The ability to monitor effectiveness of quality programs and implement corrective action programs on an as needed basis.
  • Assertiveness and excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in English
  • Ability to develop and implement structured QA processes, procedures and CTQ measures in a rapidly changing environment
  • Excellent decision-making and interpersonal skills are essential
  • Ability to articulate (verbally & in writing), defend and negotiate Quality expectations with internal and external customers at all levels of management
  • Ability to drive change where required.
  • Travel might be required
  • Proficiency in power point, word processing, spreadsheet, statistical and presentation software
  • Preferred proficiency in SAP
    Special Skill Set Required
  • Should be Lean certified Black belt from a reputed institute and should be a practioneer for a min of 5-8 years having experience in driving Lean projects through VSM at manufacturing and supplier factories
  • Drive shop floor 5s, Visual system at supplier factories
  • Develop culture of continuous improvement at supplier factory
  • Identify Gaps and Drive shop floor kaizen events and lean projects and identify waste as an ongoing process to improve supplier metrics as a part of supplier developmental program
  • Develop a reward and recognition program for suppliers at defined frequency based on performance of suppliers
  • Should be able to create training material and ability to train and certify employees both internal (CommScope) and Suppliers
  • Should develop and certify Suppliers employees to be Green and Orange belts
  • Should be a mentor to inhouse Green and Orange belts
  • Should be able to visualize organizational priorities and look for opportunities from a lean perspective
  • Should have an excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
