How You’ll Help Us Connect the World

As a Materials Engineering Intern, you will be part of a team in the Network Connectivity business unit responsible for developing material technologies for fiber optic closures. You will work closely with Materials Engineers and Product Development teams with your work primarily focused on custom-formulated gel sealing materials. You’ll learn how formulations & processing relate to material properties through making and testing gel prototypes.

 

This role will be based in Apex, NC.

You Will Make an Impact By

  • Executing planned experimentation diligently
  • Recording, analyzing, and reporting data to enable clear conclusions
  • Contributing new ideas / additional opportunities for improvement both in the materials technology under study and in our methods for processing and evaluating such materials
  • Collaborating with other team members and stakeholders

Required Qualifications for Consideration

  • Actively pursuing a bachelor’s (upcoming sophomores, juniors & seniors) or master’s degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Polymer Science or Chemical Engineering (Polymer focus) from an accredited university
  • Proven strong academic performer with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Basic lab and chemical safety awareness
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization and not require future sponsorship
  • Military-Affiliated candidates encouraged to apply (Veterans, Military Spouses, and Guard/Reservists)

You Will Excite Us If You

  • Have experience analyzing data using Minitab
  • Have experience mixing and casting two-part thermoset polymers
  • Have experience programming test equipment
  • Have experience designing and prototyping simple components with CAD and 3D printing
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Propose innovative ideas to the team
  • Are able to balance multiple assignments simultaneously and effectively meet deadlines
  • Show strategic and creative thinking; distinguished written and verbal communications skills
  • Show strong initiative and are a self-starter with analytical skills, attention to detail, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Have experience working in a fast-paced environment and are flexible to changing priorities
