As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you’ll be part of the research & development group in the Cable and Connectivity Solutions (CCS), Building & Data Center Connectivity (BDCC) business unit. Working closely with our innovative mechanical, development and test engineers in the R&D team, you’ll make meaningful contributions to the design & development of some of our key fiber optic products for service providers and data centers. This included enclosures, panels, modules and racks in which fiber optic cables are terminated, connected, and distributed.  Endurance and reliability are critical and rigorously tested.

 

The purpose of this internship is to build a test setup that can accelerate the testing of the mechanical load to which the panels and modules are exposed during their entire lifespan. More specifically a setup that can do the opening and closing of sliding and hinging panels repeatedly.

 

This role will be based in our Kessel-Lo, Belgium site just outside Leuven, with flexibility to work from home 1-2 days a week.

 

You Will Make an Impact By

  • Designing and drawing the setup in CAD (Creo)
  • Determining the required parts and having them made in the internal model shop or at an external supplier
  • Building and testing the setup
  • Writing the necessary software to operate the setup
  • Reports of results and designs

 

Required Qualifications for Consideration

  • Actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Have knowledge of working with Creo7
  • Have knowledge to write software for an electrical/hydraulic setup
  • Fluency (B2 or higher) in spoken and written English.  It’s beneficial to also be fluent in Dutch.
  • Comfortable using MS Office products e.g., Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
