We’re hiring an Engineering Intern in Cork, Ireland this summer.

 

Joining our Access Network Solutions unit, you’ll learn from and support our phenomenal engineers, making valuable contributions to solving real challenges with our pioneering DOCSIS MAC, PHY and OSS team. When it comes to DOCSIS, you can trust CommScope for innovation and leadership. We’ve shipped over 200m DOCSIS devices and 10 thousand CMTS systems to network operators throughout the world.

 

How You’ll Help Us Connect the World

 

DOCSIS 4.0 is the latest version of the Internet over Hybrid Fiber Coax protocol (HFC). This iteration enables Home user access throughput of up to 10 Gigabit per second over Cable, which compares favourably with other access network, such as Fiber over Passive Optical Network (PON).

CommScope is developing a suite of devices and applications to enable Multiple System Operators (MSO) to migrate their cable network to DOCSIS 4.0, such as but not limited to:

 

  • Advanced PHY design (RF modulation) using state of the art system on a chips (SoCs) and power amplifier.
  • Advanced MAC design (traffic generation/filtering, etc..) using virtualization and packet processing technologies on X86 platform.
  • Advanced OSS support (configuration and monitoring) leveraging orchestration, analytic and cloud technologies such as Kubernetes and Machine Learning.

 

You Will Make an Impact By

  • Help the team improves PHY processing through RF Modelling and Machine Learning technology
  • Help the team improves their DOCSIS 4.0 network simulation involving 1000s of devices.  
  • Help the team improves OSS Proactive Network Management by training ML model(s) to detect unusual and faulty activity in a Cable Network.

 

Required Qualifications for Consideration

  • Actively pursuing a bachelor’s or post graduate studies or better in Mathematics, Physics or Computer Science (or other STEM fields) from an accredited university, on track for a minimum 2.2
  • Available to work full time for 12 weeks this summer. Start dates can be flexible around your term time.
  • Legal right to work in Ireland for the duration of the internship
  • Knowledge of Data Modelling, Algorithms and Programming.

 

You Will Excite Us If You

  • Have a working knowledge of C/C++ language, Python, CUDA, TensorFlow, Matlab, etc…
  • Show excellent, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Are proactive and innovative, sharing your unique ideas (we love the fresh thinking our interns bring!)
  • Able to handle multiple assignments simultaneously and effectively meet deadlines
  • Have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Seek experience working in a fast-paced environment and flexible to changing priorities
