How You’ll Help Us Connect the World
As a Research and Development Engineer Intern, you will be responsible for improving processes, creating prototypes, and expanding laboratory capabilities as part of the CCS. You will work closely with the R&D Design Engineers to build and analyze prototype injection molds and develop a vapor smoothing system for the Additive Manufacturing Lab. This role will be based in Apex, North Carolina.
You Will Make an Impact By
- Performing analysis of multi-material injection molds, including flow behavior and improvement of thermal properties.
- Supporting simulation and validation of mold designs to ensure optimal performance and quality.
- Researching and developing a vapor smoothing system for improving surface finish and dimensional accuracy of 3D-printed prototype parts.
- Conducting experiments and trials to evaluate smoothing effectiveness and process parameters.
Required Qualifications for Consideration
- Actively pursuing a bachelor’s (upcoming sophomores, juniors & seniors) or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science & Engineering from an accredited university
- Proven strong academic performer with a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Basic understanding of injection molding processes, polymer properties, and additive manufacturing.
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo) and simulation tools is a plus.
- Must possess unrestricted work authorization and not require future sponsorship

- Have experience working in a laboratory with prototyping and manufacturing equipment

- Strategic and creative thinking; distinguished written and verbal communications skills
