My CommScope Journey

My professional journey began in academia, where I held a faculty position until 2018 before transitioning into industry. I worked at an engineering design firm, then at a startup developing mm-wave antennas for satellite Internet while living in San Diego. In 2021, my husband’s career led our family to the Bay Area. As I considered my next role, I sought a company whose products benefit the public and aligned with my expertise in antenna design. It was important to me to join a professional and experienced team working in wireless communications.

That search led me to RUCKUS Wireless Networks, where I now develop antennas for WiFi access points. Our products are used in a wide range of places—schools, hospitals, hotels, and homes—helping people enjoy reliable wireless connectivity. Knowing that my work has a direct, positive impact on the lives of so many people is what makes me love working at RUCKUS Networks.

The #CommScopeLife Experience

At RUCKUS Networks, I design state-of-the-art antennas for WiFi access points (APs). I began by designing Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antennas for WiFi 7 products and continue advancing designs for both current and upcoming WiFi 8 products. From initial concepts to simulations, prototyping, and final integration, I oversee antenna performance to meet product requirements.

My favorite part of my job is getting to work on what I love most. I can dedicate my focus on antenna design while collaborating with a talented and experienced team. Their expertise ensures every stage runs smoothly, allowing me to do my best work.

I truly feel like part of a large and supportive family. The culture here is rooted in collaboration, with colleagues who are not only experts but also humble and generous with their knowledge. I especially appreciate the encouragement from my supervisor, Anand Krishnamachari, and the freedom to explore challenges beyond my usual scope.

I’m proud to have contributed to our first enterprise WiFi 7 and the first switchable WiFi7 AP, configurable as sector or directional. I’ve also filed several patents and participated in every Ruckathon (a one-day hackathon-type competition) since joining, with my team's projects consistently ranked among the top.

"What makes working at RUCKUS truly unique is the unity of our team. The culture of collaboration and teamwork here is truly outstanding."

My Insights For Success

The field of wireless communication is both rewarding and vital to our society. It has become an integral part of our daily lives, enabling communication that supports education, healthcare, security, and overall quality of life. Working in this field is deeply meaningful, but it also carries significant responsibility. Professionals must stay current with new developments and continuously expand their knowledge to enhance consumer products, reduce risks, and promote sustainability. This is not a routine job; it is an ongoing journey of learning and innovation.

Life beyond work

Much of my spare time is devoted to research projects, particularly focusing on wearable and implanted antennas for biomedical sensors. Understanding how electromagnetic waves interact with the human body is a fascinating challenge, and I regularly publish my findings in this space. When I want to take a break from research or reading, I enjoy spending time with my family and baking.

I also actively volunteer with scientific organizations such as the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society, the Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society (ACES), and the United States National Committee for the International Union of Radio Science (USNC-URSI). I was also elevated to Fellow at ACES and now serve as its Vice President.

For the past two years, I’ve also served as Chair of Commission K for USNC-URSI. Additionally, I am an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer for the Antennas and Propagation Society and serve as a voting member on its Administration Committee. And last year, I was appointed as the Chair of the Technical Committee on Antenna Measurement.

My editorial roles include serving as associate for renowned journals and area editor for International Journal of Electronics and Communications (AEÜ), with recent recognition as an outstanding associate editor for two IEEE publications. These accomplishments reflect my dedication and recognition as an expert in antenna design.
