Title:  Maintenance Fitter

The Maintenance Fitter will work as part of the maintenance and production team. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work from drawings and instructions. Maintain and repair plant machinery such as lathes, mills, saws and drills. 
  • Monitor both hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.  Dismantle and assemble plant equipment where close fitting and aligning is required.
  • Maybe required to maintain written records of breakdowns and repairs.
  • Contact Maintenance Manager with major problems and difficulties.
  • Responsible for self-inspection or work and for maintenance of quality standards.
  • Design and maintain electro/pneumatic and electro/hydraulic circuits and systems.
  • Evaluate and upgrade existing plant and fixtures.
  • Support Installation and modification of plant services.
  • Operate, maintain and upgrade Trade Effluent Plant.
  • Design and installation and maintain all safety devices.
  • Use a wide variety of hand and power tools. Use meters, measuring instruments, or welding equipment.
  • Follow safety rules and keep work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Support on the Job Training and Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain and record data, including part usage from Stores, input data into relevant maintenance systems as required and in compliance with current regulations and policies especially in the areas of Safety, Environmental and Quality.
  • Work with external maintenance contractors to facilitate the repair, maintenance and knowledge build up on equipment.
  • Maintain effective communication with clear objective to ensure all are communicated to within the department and interdepartmentally with respect to work completion and shift handovers.
  • Any other reasonable job related duties that may be required from time to time
  • Implement the Preventative Maintenance Programme as directed by the Maintenance Manager to ensure that all equipment is maintained in good running order and that breakdowns are minimised ensuring targets and objectives are met in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Maintain the diverse equipment on site to a high standard in accordance with EH&S Policy’s
  • Provide Timely response to unplanned breakdowns of any service to the various functions on site
  • Liaise with the Engineering Team and actively contribute in modification and redesign of equipment to maximise plant equipment life and efficiency.
  • Analyse, identify and assess specific reasons for machine breakdown/fault.
  • Support and work with outside contractors.
  • Use Lathes, CNC, machines tools, drills, milling machines
  • Provide clear and comprehensive reports of work carried out. 

 

Qualifications & Experience:​​​​​​​

  • Mechanical Trade Qualification required
  • As part of the Maintenance Team, the Maintenance Fitter will have a sound mechanical knowledge and at least 5 years’ relevant experience gained in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Expertise in general mechanical maintenance and fabrication is essential
  • The role involves working in a cross-functional team therefore strong communication skills coupled with excellent analytical and problem solving skills are prerequisites for this role.
  • An understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools would be an advantage.
  • A good working knowledge of PLC Programming and hydraulics/pneumatics is required.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Candidate must be flexible in this position and be prepared to undertake other work that may be assigned to you from time to time, which may be outside the area of your normal duties.
